The ability to detect and resolve conflict are key subprocesses of cognitive control that enable speakers to communicate efficiently in a given linguistic environment. Bilingual speakers may leverage these cognitive resources to overcome interference when juggling multiple languages, but how these may be impaired or leveraged in bilinguals with aphasia is largely unknown. I am interested in investigating whether cognitive control mechanisms engaged to resolve conflict outside of language are also used to resolve interference between lexical representations within and between languages in production, and how these may be affected in Spanish-English bilinguals with aphasia.
